Iterations in visual design and branding

Not so good, better, better, better, ...

Sometimes a product win is not the result of perfect execution or visionary certitude. Sometimes big wins take place over countless iterations and tiny changes. By providing these three examples of a page in random states of change, all incomplete, I hoped to convey the importance of iteration.

Circle of Moms does many things well, but none is more important or primary to their process than testing and constant small iteration. While at Circle of Moms I became used to pushing code as soon as it was good enough. As a graphic designer this constant testing made me accutely aware of the role of pure design as it relates to interaction and development.

While working to bring a better visual design to our product, I was also testing solutions that used varying degrees of complexity in visual elements. To my surprise, I quickly learned that a simple submission process and navigational model had much more of an effect on usage and engagment than almost all of my visual / design changes.

The final design demonstrates the end of a larger design process and was originally conceived by the designers at Zurb. I took the design standards and visual style they put forward and expanded it to all site pages and layouts.
